Faculty and Student Awards
91ÖÆÆ¬³§ recognizes faculty and students for excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, mentoring, service, and academic achievement. The awards below are administered through the Division of Academic Affairs and partner offices and recognize outstanding contributions to the University and the broader community.
Many faculty and student awards are presented at the University's annual Honors Convocation.
Faculty Awards
Distinguished Teacher of the Year
The Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award recognizes an 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ faculty member for excellence in teaching, scholarship, research, academic advising, and service to the University and community. The recipient is selected by students and receives a cash award. The recipient also delivers the keynote address at the Honors Convocation in the spring and the Freshman Convocation in the fall.

Excellence and Innovation in Teaching and Advising Awards
These awards recognize faculty members who demonstrate excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching and academic advising. Four teaching awards and three advising awards are presented annually. Teaching award recipients receive a $4,000 stipend, while advising award recipients receive a $2,000 stipend.
The awards are presented at the Honors Convocation.
University Faculty Service Award
The University Faculty Service Award recognizes an 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding service to the community at the local, regional, national, or international level. The award celebrates the recipient's dedication, impact, and professional contributions beyond the classroom.
The recipient receives a $1,200 pre-tax award and is recognized at the Annual Employee Service Awards Ceremony.
Researcher of the Year
The Researcher of the Year Awards recognize excellence in sponsored and project-oriented research, with an emphasis on externally funded research. One $2,500 award is presented in each faculty rank: assistant, associate, and full professor.
Scholar of the Year
The Scholar of the Year Awards recognize excellence in creative and scholarly activities. One $2,500 award is presented in each faculty rank: assistant, associate, and full professor.
Distinguished Mentor of the Year (DMOY)Ìý
The Distinguished Mentor of the Year Award recognizes a faculty member for excellence in mentoring undergraduate research students. One $2,500 award is presented annually, and the recipient is recognized at the Annual Honors Convocation.

2027 Faculty and Staff Awards Call
The annual call provides eligibility requirements, nomination procedures, deadlines, and complete award information for the faculty awards included in the call.
Student Awards and ScholarshipsÌý
The University recognizes outstanding students through the following annual awards and scholarships:
Stan and Renee Wimberly Award — one recipient receives $2,500.
University Scholars — one student from each college receives $1,000.
Distinguished Student of the Year — one recipient receives $1,500.
Hersker, Shaw, and Gosser Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Scholarship — one recipient receives $2,500.
Deans are notified early in the spring semester and are asked to submit student finalists for consideration. The selection committee has historically included past Distinguished Teacher of the Year recipients, a representative from the University's Phi Kappa Phi chapter, and a representative from Student Affairs.
The awards are presented at the University's annual Honors Convocation.

Emeritus Faculty Awards
Colleges will submit requests to Shannon Kane, and she will send the nominations to the Honors and Awards Committee for review during the academic year. The Honors and Awards Committee will notify Office of the Provost by November 22nd in the fall and April 3rd in the spring.
