Joel Rodriguez is a Dominican-American artist, educator, and voice and speech specialist based in South Florida. Raised in the barbecue capital of the world鈥擪ansas City, Missouri鈥擩oel brings a multidisciplinary approach to theatre, drawing on experience as an actor, accent coach, sound designer, and classical voice training. He earned his undergraduate degrees in Music (classical voice) and Theatre Performance from the University of Missouri-Columbia, an MFA in Acting from 91制片厂, and has since worked with numerous professional theaters throughout South Florida. As an accent coach, his recent credits include My Fair Lady at The Wick Theater and How to Break in a Glove at City Theatre in Miami. As an actor, he was most recently seen in Zoetic Stage's production of Merrily We Roll Along. His sound design work has also been featured at Theatre Lab, Maltz Jupiter Theatre, Zoetic Stage, and City Theatre.
As a Certified Teacher of Knight-Thompson Speechwork, Joel specializes in skills-based voice, speech, and accent training that empowers performers to develop flexibility, precision, and authentic communication. His creative and scholarly interests explore the intersection of language, identity, and performance, with a particular focus on supporting multilingual actors in navigating accent, intelligibility, and vocal authenticity. His ongoing research investigates how contemporary voice and speech pedagogy can better serve performers from linguistically diverse backgrounds while honoring the richness of their lived linguistic identities.
